Fun Sensory Table Project: How to use HTV and Felt to create a fun themed sensory table

Creating a last-minute sensory table but don't have any items that match your theme. Look no further than your trusty cutting machine like the Maker or Cameo and some heat transfer vinyl (HTV)! With just a few simple steps, you can create customised felt shapes that will take your toddler's sensory play to the next level. And the best part? It's quick, easy, and requires minimal supplies.

In this blog post, we'll show you how to apply HTV to felt and cut out shamrocks to make some cute accessories for our St Patricks Day theme sensory bin. So grab your Cricut Maker and let's get crafting!

Materials:
Step 1: Apply HTV to your felt. We chose Siser Glitter HTV in the colour Grass. Lay the HTV glitter side up on your felt. Press at 150c for 15 seconds. You can choose to decorate one or both sides of your felt.

Step 2: Remove the Carrier sheet from the htv.

Step 3: Insert the Rotary Blade in to your Cricut Maker or Silhouette Cameo. If your machines are not compatible you can always cut the shapes by hand with some sharp scissors

Step 4: Apply your felt HTV Side up on your mat.
*** Tip: To save your mat getting the fuzzies, apply transfer tape sticky side up on your mat. Then remove once project is complete to keep your mat clean***

Step 5: Select Felt - Acrylic Fabric cut option. If you haven't tried to cut felt before we recommend doing a test cut first and adjusting your cut settings as required.

Step 6: Cut out your chosen design. We went with Shamrocks for our St Patricks Day themed sensory table

Step 7: Remove excess felt from your cut shapes. Be careful not to remove any parts of the shape that you may want to keep.
Step 8: You're done! Have Fun!

If you're making these shapes as an accessory for a toddler sensory bin, now is the time to assemble the bin! Fill a container with green dyed rice or shredded paper, and add the felt shapes on top. Encourage your little one to explore the textures and colours of the bin.

Whilst Siser HTV products are CPSIA approved and safe to use for items for children, It is important to ensure the HTV is applied throughly and the items are size appropriate for your child as small items may present as a choking hazard. Children of all ages should be supervised at all times whilst playing with sensory table items.
